This panel was chosen partly because it reminded me of W B Yeats's phrase in his poem An Irish Airman Foresees His Death, "A lonely impulse of delight drove to this tumult in the clouds".

It also has a tight composition and I like the way it is on an angle.

A straightforwardly bellicose image, but the twist is that the German soldier pictured is dressed in the uniform of his enemy. The image could be interpreted to mean that all combatants are more like each other than they seem.

The image was chosen because the arch speech bubble: "Auf Wiedersehen, Englander" made me laugh because it's exactly the sort of thing that men at war never had the time to say.
