In 1992, Russ Cochran & Gemstone undertook to reprint all the EC (Entertaining Comics) New-Trend/ New-Direction Comics, with full colour cover and contents, as per the 1950s scarce originals. Less well known are the anthologies, known as Annuals, featured in the above EC sections which collect 4 or 5 issues under new covers in a squarebound format. These are far less common, are very readable and represent a real opportunity for collectors.

Foul Play! The art & artists of the notorious 1950s horror comics!
Grant Geissman. Harper Design, 2005. Another superior compilation from Grant Geissman, who is now associated with high-quality retrospectives of Maxwell C & William M. Gaines' publishing company, Entertaining Comics. After a general introduction, the author takes us on a guided tour of the great EC artists, commencing with Al Feldstein, artist, writer & editor, but taking in 13 other notable artists. These include Berni Krigstein, Al Williamson, Reed Crandall, Wally Wood, Harvey Kurtzman, Johnny Craig, Jack Kamen & Graham 'Ghastly' Ingels. It concludes with a Best Of The Rest, EC Christmas Party Art & a previously unpublished Picto-fiction story, from Al Williamson (assisted by Angelo Torres), 'Wanted For Murder.' This is shot in B&W, from the original artwork. Each section is crammed with images, plus one complete story culled from an EC Comic book, just as it would have originally appeared. The companion is rounded out by Jack Davis' R.I.P. memorial & detailed index. This is a superb compilation, giving new insights & featuring previously unseen material. The inclusion of a previously unseen EC story will make it an essential purchase for all EC fan-addicts. 272 pages. Soft Cover Full Colour 9" x 11" (23cm x 28cm) ISBN: 006074698X Recommended.
