Golden Girl
Shirley Eaton. Batsford Books, 1999. Shirley Eaton, star of Goldfinger, three Carry On films and many other international comedies and thrillers, takes a sideways look at her remarkable career and the way in which film glamour was created and marketed in the 1950s and 1960s. Signing up with Alexander Korda, the Bond and Carry On films, Hollywood, Pinewood and African crocodiles all come under Shirley's humorous microscope. There are candid memories of the Doctor in the House series with Dirk Bogarde and work with Hammer, Peter Sellers, Bob Hope, Lloyd Bridges and others in the 1960s. This book is rounded off by a look at how images of glamour have changed from the studio years of the 1930s and 1940s to the present day, and at how enduring movie icons such as Monroe, Garbo, Taylor and Bardot transcend the eras that created them. 210 pages. Intense Device A Journey Through Lust, Murder & The Fires Of Hell
CONTAINS ADULT MATERIAL. Simon Whitechapel. Critical Vision/Headpress. Dildos through the ages; the life and crimes of the Marquis de Sade; the literary twilight that is the TV & movie tie-in; the Christian Crusader comics of Jack T. Chick; visions of End Times … these are just some of the sights to be had in Simon Whitechapel’s tour of a wholly unique and contemporary Hell: part divine, part man-made, completely absorbing. A collection of essays and articles, all of which are published here for the first time. Hollywood's Maddest Doctors Lionel Atwill, Colin Clive, George Zucco
Gregory William Mank. Midnight Marquee, 1998. They were three English gentlemen, all fated for Hollywood fame and tragedy. One was an aristocrat, a London and Broadway matinee idol, who gleefully gave up the stage after marrying an heiress. There was the would-be British soldier, a descendant of the legendary Clive of India. A Jekyll and Hyde alcoholic destined for an early death, he was described by his Frankenstein leading lady Mae Clarke as 'the most handsome man I ever saw, and also the saddest'. And the third man was a World War I veteran, severely wounded in France, masterfully disguising his withered arm and crippled fingers as he acted in dozens of plays and nearly 100 movies; a charming, kind, loving family man who never made peace with his wicked screen image. This is the spellbinding story of their lives and loves, their fame and misfortunes and their greatest cinematic achievements. B&W photos. 320 pages.
