Here is what leading artists have to say about this book ... This heartbreakingly beautiful book is the reinvention of Winsor McCay. - Art Spiegelman, Maus. Every time I look at it I get inspired. - Chris Ware, Jimmy Corrigan. I've waited forever to see Nemo as it should be seen. - Matt Groening, The Simpsons. It is every bit as gorgeous, as inspiring, and as necessary as I had hoped. - Neil Gaiman, The Sandman. This beautifully done book is a work of art in itself. - Patrick McDonnell, Mutts. 120 pages. Hard Cover Full Colour 16" x 21" (41cm x 53cm) ISBN: 0976888505 Highly Recommended.

Winsor McCay's Little Nemo In Slumberland Volume 1
(Ref: LNIS1)

Winsor McCay's Little Nemo In Slumberland Volume 1
Winsor McCay. Checker Books, 2007. For the first time ever Checker have collected and restored every Little Nemo strip from the first appearance in 1905 through to 1909 when this first volume ends. Volume two should cover from that point until the original demise of the strip at the end of 1923 when under some duress McCay became an Editorial cartoonist. Little Nemo in Slumberland has its own political and social agenda despite its charming fantastic nature. McCay's social commentary has been likened to Swift and Carroll, but people are more likely to be charmed these days by the lovely panel designs, faithfully rendered animals and wonderfully mutated perspectives.

This edition also features a chapter on Tales of the Jungle Imps a strip that McCay drew for The Cincinnati Enquirer in 1903 before moving over to The New York Herald. The final chapter contains a selection of rarely seen promotional material, including play-bills, posters and early examples of Little Nemo merchandising. 294 pages. Hard Cover Full Colour 9" x 13" (229mm x 330mm) ISBN: 1933160217
