Film Posters of the 50s The Essential Movies of the Decade
(Ref: FPOT50)

Film Posters of the 50s The Essential Movies of the Decade
Edited by Tony Nourmand and Graham Marsh. Evergreen, 2005. Another in the excellent series of film poster books edited by Nourmand and Marsh. A clear well designed book that emphasises the bold intensity of the posters, their design making wild promises to lure punters off the streets and into the cinemas. This volume covers the decade that brought us Cinemascope, Vista-Vision and 3D.

While Hitchcock ruled with classics such as North By Northwest and Vertigo, another sort of classic featured in The Day The Earth Stood Still and Forbidden Planet, both coincidentally featuring robots carrying prostrate women! James Dean was for many the leading 'rebel' actor, but in his wake came such JD thrillers as Girl With An Itch and High-School Hellcats as so called Juvenile Delinquency made as much money in Hollywood as it did column inches in the newspapers.

This was of course the decade that gave us Marilyn Monroe but Eva Marie Saint, Kim Novak and the demure Audrey Hepburn also have their boosters. Musicals, Westerns and Horror also feature strongly; European films have some nice design work especially for the films of Jacques Tatti. 192 pages. Soft Cover Full Colour 10" x 12" (254mm x 305mm) ISBN: 3822845213

Film Posters of the 60s The Essential Movies of the Decade
Edited by Tony Nourmand and Graham Marsh. Evergreen, 2005. Another in the excellent series of film poster books edited by Nourmand and Marsh. A clear well designed book that emphasises the bold intensity of the posters, their design making wild promises to lure punters off the streets and into the cinemas. This volume covers the decade that brought us Sean Connery as James Bond and the “Dollar” films that made a star out of Clint Eastwood. Notable films represented include The Graduate, Blow-Up and Hitchcock's masterpiece Psycho.

Cult classics also feature strongly: Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill and Marianne Faithfull's memorable role as the Girl On A Motorcycle, not to mention Jane Fonda as Barbarella. The decade also saw Steve McQueen, Warren Beatty and Michael Caine become household names. Pop culture hit the big time with Batman and The Beatles and Bob Dylan all crossing over into films.

Hollywood also began to experiment with counter culture most notably with the antihero posturing of Peter Honda and Dennis Hopper when they created history in Easy Rider. Other memorable films with iconic posters include Planet of the Apes and the risky adaptation of Lolita. 192 pages. Soft Cover Full Colour 10" x 12" (254mm x 305mm) ISBN: 3822845264

Film Posters of the 70s The Essential Movies of the Decade
(Ref: FPOT70)

Film Posters of the 70s The Essential Movies of the Decade
Edited by Tony Nourmand and Graham Marsh. Evergreen, 2005. Another in the excellent series of film poster books edited by Nourmand and Marsh. A clear well designed book that emphasises the bold intensity of the posters, their design making wild promises to lure punters off the streets and into the cinemas. This volume covers the decade that brought us a return to the Hollywood blockbuster of old. Star Wars, Jaws, Rocky and Alien all started their runs. John Travolta rose to fame in Grease and Saturday Night Feaver. Horror took a darker turn with The Omen, The Exorcist and David Lynch's cult classic Eraserhead. Even The Sex Pistols cashed in with The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle.

More explicit adult themes came into the cinema with Maitresse, and the controversial films Last Tango In Paris (Marlon Brando) and Emmanuelle. Blaxploitation ruled for a time with Shaft, Super Fly and Foxy Brown amongst others.

Other cult posters include the martial arts films of Bruce Lee and a crime spree broke out in the wake of Mean Streets and The Godfather. 192 pages. Soft Cover Full Colour 10" x 12" (254mm x 305mm) ISBN: 3822845310

Exploitation Poster Art
Edited by Tony Nourmand, Graham Marsh, Dave Kehr (foreword). Aurum Press, 2005. Another in the excellent series of film poster books edited by Nourmand and Marsh. A clear well designed book that emphasises the bold intensity of the posters, their design making wild promises to lure punters off the streets and into the cinemas.
