This is the first time that we see him eating it, after he has accidentally landed in a field of the stuff. He didn't even know what it was and the woman on the right had to tell him. First published in Thimble Theatre in 1932.

This is the first time that Popeye appears in Elzie Crisler Segar's long-running comic strip called Thimble Theatre. The main characters until now have been the Oyl family, including Olive. Her brother, Castor, is shown here selecting Popeye to sail him to the Caribbean on a money-making venture. The panels were originally in black and white. Screenprint on handmade, acid free Somerset paper. First appeared 1929.
