Starting in the mid-20th century we relax deep in a nostalgic rural idyll and examine the wood-engravings of Eric Ravilious. We'll then go on to consider the wonderful illustrations of his contemporary, Jack Townend, who, while Ravilious was creating his detailed, beautifully crafted wood-engravings, was producing some of the most gorgeous lithographic children's books of the period.

Poster fans will enjoy a piece on the art produced by the “nanny state” by a wide variety of artists and then we'll interview Christopher Corr about his illustrations for children's books, Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy and Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book and how these are informed by his travels.

The interview this issue is with Richard Bell most widely known for his work on the film Watership Down, these days he compliments his commercial work with sketches of local interest for his blog on his native Yorkshire.
